La primera ministra d’Escòcia expressa el rebuig a l’empresonament de polítics catalans


La primera ministra d’Escòcia, Nicola Sturgeon, ha expressat la seva ‘ferma oposició’ a la decisió de l’estat espanyol de ‘cercar i empresonar els polítics independentistes’, i ha expressat el suport a l’autodeterminació del poble català. Ho ha dit en un seguit de piulets que ha publicat després d’haver-se sabut que la policia escocesa havia rebut l’ordre de detenció internacional de Clara Ponsatí. Sturgeon ha suggerit que voldria poder intervenir des d’un punt de vista del govern escocès en favor de Ponsatí, però que el procediment és més jurídic que no polític.
‘Sé que molts voldrien que el govern escocès pogués fer o dir més, i ho entenc. Però també espero que s’entengui la importància de protegir el procés i la independència del nostre sistema legal’, ha dit Sturgeon. Ha fegit que la llei escocesa protegeix el dret de Ponsatí d’oposar-se a l’extradició als tribunals i per tant ‘és important que el govern escocès no digui res que pugui perjudicar la integritat d’aquest procés’. A més, Sturgeon ha dit que, per llei, ‘els ministres escocesos no tenen el poder d’intervenir.’

3/ Importantly, the legal process includes the right of an individual subject to proceedings under the 2003 Act to oppose extradition in the courts - it is important that @scotgov says nothing to prejudice the integrity of that process.

4/ I know that many will wish that @scotgov was able to do or say more - I understand that. But I hope there can also be an understanding of the position as outlined and the importance of protecting due process and the independence of our legal system.
